A transformative expansion of the Tampa Museum of Art will enhance the cultural center’s experience and education and event spaces! Just recently, architectural plans for the expansion of the downtown Tampa campus were revealed and show the project will increase the museum’s footprint from 69,000 to 125,000 square feet. Some of the planned additions include a new 4-story glass-fronted building designed with modernism and a transparent visual effect in mind.Verify my mortgage eligibility (Jan 29th, 2023)
Inside, the visitor exhibition, reception, and educational experience will be enhanced by additional display space, more than tripling the museum’s current exhibition capacity from 14,800 square feet to 43,000 square feet to the tune of five new galleries, a multi-media center, and a renovated sculpture gallery. Meanwhile, an outdoor auditorium featuring graduated concrete seating along the Hillsborough River, as well as a new education center complemented by natural light and long project tables, complete the picture of a thoroughly improved Tampa Museum of Art.
The cutting-edge design is being spearheaded by New York-based Weiss/Manfredi Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism. This award-winning global design firm already has bragging rights to the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitor Center, and the Baker Museum in Naples. The planned expansion, which is expected to be completed in 2024, is funded largely by private funds from the museum’s board of trustees, the foundation board of directors, community supporters, museum patrons, and members.
