Tampa is title town! While often under-reported by national mainstream sports outlets, the professional sports teams that call the Tampa area home have been on quite an impressive run of success over the past couple of seasons. We have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, reigning Super Bowl champions; a talented professional baseball team that reached the World Series in 2020 and has made the postseason for three consecutive years; and Tampa has a pretty good hockey team too.
As the Stanley Cup champions in back-to-back seasons, the Tampa Bay Lightning recently began their journey towards a three-peat when the puck officially dropped on the 2021-22 NHL season earlier this month. With the first month of the season just getting underway, there’s still plenty of unknowns about how this year will shape up for the Bolts. However, we do know that this year’s team, thanks to an exceptional coach in Jon Cooper, a knowledgeable GM in Julien BriseBois, and an owner in Jeffrey Vinik who is not afraid to spend, are the odds-on favorite to win the Atlantic Division and be a frontrunner for their third consecutive NHL championship.
Every hockey fan knows that the “Road to the Cup” is challenging and often can be plagued by injuries. Unfortunately, the injury bug has already struck the Bolts this season, as Nikita Kucherov will have to miss an extended period of time with a lower-body injury. However, the front office and coaching staff have positioned the team well for success, even with the absence of a star player like Kucherov.
